97-43 (2)� RESOLIlTION NO. 97-43 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLURIDA, AMEPIDING FtESOLUTION 94-12, THE POLICY AND PROCEQ�RE FOR NAMING NEW CITY PARKS; TD PEF2MIT RENAMING EXISTING PARKS tJNDER CERTAIN ClRCUMSTANCES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. � WHEREAS, the Gity Commission desires to revise the policy and procedure for naming City parks; and WHEREAS, the current policy and procedure was established by Resolution 94-12 adopted January 18, 1994; now, �herefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLE,4RWATER, FLORIDA: 5�ction 1. That Sectian 'I of Resolution 94-12 is hereby amended as follows: (a) Any person recommending a name for a park will first complete a gorm "Proposal for Park Name," to be provided by the Parks and Recreation �3�pa�finent. Each proposal shall be submitted to the Parks and Recreation �oarei. (b) The Parks and Recreation Board will not consider any requests to rename existing parks unl�ss �o reQUested bv motion of the Citv Commission. (c) The Board will not consider any requests to name recreation facilifies such as tennis courts, basketball courts, or ballfields, that are located within park�. (d} Each park to be named will be evaluated on the following criteria: •�eighborhood homeowners associations will be contacted when considering names for parks located in their neighborhoods. « Persons serving on the Parks and Recreation Board, another City board, or on the City Commission will not be eligible to have a park named after them during their t�nure of office. • Ordinarily, parks will be named after subdivisians, geographic locations, ar streets. �`-, Re�oiutic�ri (Va.97'-43 : •(n the event the park property is donated, fhe donor wi(I be altowed fhe '� privilege of submitting a preference for a name. • Parks may be named in honor of an individual; however, this should occur oniy on rare occasions and the i��dividuai should have given lengthy aivic service to the City of Clearwater community, and that indi�Jidual should be of local importance rather than of state or national �� prominence. � �� � (e) A survey may be required of homeowners living around the park to r�ceiv� th�ir �pinion of a proposed r�ame. {f}' The Parks and Ftecreation Board witl conduct an advertised public h�aring for each proposal. (g) Based on the criteria contained in Paragraph {d) and on information rec�ived from the public hearing, the Parks and Recreation Board shall formulate � recommendation on the proposed �ame and sha!! provide the recommendation to th� City Commission for a final decision.
