W7HEREA3, The Florida Department of Transportation is
proposing to construct a Rapid Rail Transportation System between
Orlando and Tampa, and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization supports the
extension of a mass transit system into Pinellas County, and
WfiEREA5, the City of Clearwater would like such a system to
be extended through Clearwater, and
WHEREAS, the need for mass transit within the Bay area
contirsues to increase, the City strongly supports all efforts to
extend and advance the use of all intermodal transportation
oppartunities within Pinellas County, and
idHERE�, we believe that light rail provides a clean,
efficient, sa�e and fast mode of operation which can provide the
backbone of an advanced public mass transit system while fostering
economic development in the areas which it serves; now, therefore,
�E IT F2ESOLVED BY THE CITY COMNIISSION OF THE CITY

�ection i. the City of Clearwater expresses its firm
support of any efforts to bring light rail operations to Pinellas
Cnunicy and to the City of Clearwater.
Sec'tion 2. the City pledges to work with all parties
involv�d to assist, develop, and help promote policies and plans
leading to the implementation of light rail service foz the citizens
of our community, in full respect of the many benefits such a service
will provide.
section 3. T�i.s resolution shal,l take effect immediately upon
adoption.
