95-50RESOLUTION NO. 95 -50 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, TO THE PINELLAS COUNTY COMMISSION, RE: OPPOSITION TO AN INCREASE IN THE TOURIST DEVELOPMENT TAX; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the County Commission is contemplating an increase in tourist development tax from 3% to 4% which would generate an additional three million dollars per year, and WHEREAS, it is contemplated that the first four years of the tax will be spent to pay for improvements to the Thunder Dome; and WHEREAS, Clearwater businesses generate approximately 32% the tourist development tax collected in Pinellas County; and WHEREAS, the additional 1 % tax would unreasonably impact Clearwater convention and tourist businesses for the benefit of the Thunder Dome which already receives a disproportionate amount of the tax; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Pinellas County that the County Commission accept the Tourist Development Council's recommendation, which passed by a 8 to 2 vote, for a plan which did not include an increase in the tax; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Commission hereby opposes an increase in the Tourist Development Tax. Section 2. That a copy of this resolution shall be sent to the County Commission. Section 3.
