A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE APPROPRIATE CITY
OFFICIALS TO REQUEST THE FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CHANGE THE
TEMPORARY STATUS OF THE CLEVELAND STREET
ON- STREET PARKING TO A PERMANENT STATUS;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation authorized a two year trial
period for on- street parking on Cleveland Street in downtown Clearwater beginning
January 31, 1994; and
WHEREAS, after the first twelve months a "Level of Service" study was required to
ensure the affected street system is operating at an acceptable level of service; and
WHEREAS, the twelve month follow -up study indicates there has been no significant
change in the level of service from the projected level of the initial study; and
WHEREAS, the on- street parking promotes pedestrian activity and not destination
oriented trips; and
WHEREAS, the on- street parking is a vital element to the redevelopment and
viability of the Central Business District core; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission supports the request to the Florida Department of
Transportation to change the temporary status of the Cleveland Street on- street parking to a
permanent status due to the positive findings of the study.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
