94-100RESOLUTION NO. 94 -100 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING HIGH SPEED RAIL INTO PINELLAS COUNTY, FLORIDA, USING THE COURTNEY CAMPBELL CAUSEWAY AS THE ENTRANCE POINT INTO PINELLAS COUNTY; PROMOTING A MONORAIL SYSTEM TO CLEARWATER BEACH; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation is preparing an RFP for High Speed Rail in the State of Florida, and WHEREAS, it is proposed that High Speed Rail be constructed from Orlando to the Tampa Bay area, and WHEREAS, there is an alternative which would bring High Speed Rail to Clearwater, Florida, using the Courtney Campbell Causeway as the entrance point into Pinellas County, and WHEREAS, a Low Speed Monorail Transportation system from the eastern edge of the City of Clearwater, at the terminus of High Speed Rail, to Clearwater Beach (seven miles m.o.l.), would make the Courtney Campbell Causeway alternative, an attractive, feasible route, and WHEREAS, High Speed Rail and the Monorail System together would provide visitors easy access to the Gulf Beaches, a leading destination for tourism; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Commission supports a High Speed Rail proposal into Pinellas County using the Courtney Campbell Causeway as the entrance point into Pinellas County. In the event that the proposal comes to fruition, the City Commission would take a lead to get a Low Speed Monorail Transportation System built from the terminus of the High Speed Rail at the eastern edge of Clearwater at Courtney Campbell Causeway to Clearwater Beach. Section 2. A copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to the High Speed Rail Transportation Program, Governor Lawton Chiles, Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, the Pinellas County Legislation Delegation, Dunedin Mayor Thomas Anderson, Tarpon Springs Mayor Anita Protos and Safety Harbor Mayor Kent B.
