93-41RESOLUTION NO. 93 -41 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING THE HIBISCUS AS THE CITY FLOWER AND THE LIVE OAK AS THE CITY TREE. WHEREAS, the hibiscus bush is a graphically showy plant which blooms for long periods of time throughout the year and requires only a moderate amount of water; and WHEREAS, the live oak is a native tree which is drought tolerant and resistant to disease and decay, supports a massive canopy with a unique branch structure and a comparatively deep root system, has a longevity of approximately 300 years, provides food and habitat for wildlife, and is a good oxygen producer which will excel in commercial plantings and is compatible with dwellings; and WHEREAS, the Beautification Committee of the City of Clearwater has recommended that the hibiscus bush be adopted as the City flower and that the live oak be adopted as the City tree, and the City Commission concurs in that recommendation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. For the reasons set forth in the preamble to this resolution, the City Commission hereby designates the hibiscus bush as the City flower and the live oak as the City tree. Section 2.
