Section 44,05, Code of Ordinances, is amended to read; 44.05. Definitions. All words used in those regulations, except where speci fi cal 1`y defined in this section, sh=all carry their customary trueaning when not inconsistent i th the context in which they are used. The following words set forth shall havek the meanings as defined in this section: Architectural< detail means; any projection, relief, change of Material window or door opening exterior lighting, inlay or other exterior building Features not specifically classified in this chapter as a sign. The term includes but is not limited td, relief or inlay features or Datterns that distinguish window or door openings, exterior lightinq that fr ies bra°�:�ding features, and changes in facade materials to create an architectural effect. Area, or surface area of a sign means the area, in square feet, enclosed by a rectangle parallelogram, triangle, circle, semicircle, crosS. other geometric figures, or other architectural design, the sides of which make contact with the extreme points or edges of the sign, excluding the supporting =structure which does not forir part of the sign proper or of the display. The area of a sign composed of characters or words attached directly to a large, uniform building wall surface shall be the smallest rectangle, triangle, circle, parallelogram, other geometric c figure, or other architectural design, or combination of not more than two of such figures or designs, which encloses the whole group of words or characters. Unless otherwise indicated, area means area per sign face. Art work means drawings, pictures, symbols, paintings or sculpture which in no way identify a product or business and which are not displayed in conjunction with a commercial , for profit or nonprofit enterprise. Section 2. Section 44.55. Code of Ordinances, is amended to read Sec. 44.58. Nonconforming signs. (8) Any sign which is in violation of Ordinance No. 4035 or Crdi nance 'Na. 4753 b�§ hi h is rendered conforming i all respects by Ordinance No. 5257 shall be considered to have b(N,?n brought into compliance with this chapter, and any pending citation or nc ice to appear before the municipal code enforcement:=board or the county court shall be dismissed. Any neon sign and lighting which is rendered nonconforming by Ordinance No. 5825-95 shall not be gLdred t 'conform to these requirements unless 'such sign or 'lighting are damaged or destroyed to an extent equal to 50 percent or more of their replacement cost* as determined by the building official . Section The provisions of this ardi` ance have been found to be consistent with the City of Clearwater Comprehensive Plan Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect i medi atel y-upon adoption.
