Due to the requirements of the drive-through window and additional parking necessary to meet the ordinance requirements, some of the desirable d originally field identified by you or Allan Mayberry are now earmarked for removal. The trees 1, 24" oak, and Number 3, 20" oak, both fall in the middle of a parking lot. The Number 2, 43° oak, does not have enough under- clearance to allow vehicles to pass under the main trunk (this tree leans toward the southwest) and was not considered for preservation. Elevations on t ttom chord of the tree branches on tree Number 2 are shown on the attached sketch ndb ho s approximately 10 to 12 feet of clearance from natural ground. Constructing a driveway protecting the root system would likely reduce this clearance by another foot, thus the decision was made to remove this tree. Quillen, Water Resource Engineer Date: May 5, 1997 RE: Sign Variance for Schlotzsky's Deli This memorandum is to provide Environmental Management comments and background information on the subject sign variance request. Environmental staff have been involved in the project since the site layout stage. At our request the building and parking areas were adjusted in order to preserve four additional oak trees located near the building; and the drive - through lane was realigned to preserve a 58 inch diameter oak tree located immediately in front of the building. This particular tree, which could have been removed, does obstruct the building visibility from traffic on Gulf to Bay Boulevard. These good faith efforts by Schlotzsky's Deli have helped to preserve the tree canopy and aesthetics of this portion of the Gulf to Bay corridor, although at a cost to them of restricted business visibility. Based on this information, Environmental Management would recommend approval of a sign variance request to install a supplemental reader board under the existing pole sign.
