If you forward me his full name, mailing address, and the lot description I will have our office prepare a deed and mail it to him for execution. We will also need a check for the amount to forward to him, either once we receive the paperwork back or we can request him not to cash until we receive it, can you request from Finance and advise Mr. Pappas that we will get him the paperwork asap? -----Original Message----- From: Vaughan, Karen Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 4:20 PM To: Dougall-Sides, Leslie Subject: RE: Cemetery Deed / Buy Back / George Pappas Leslie, Mr. Pappas left me his mailing address (via voicemail) and is wondering where the paperwork is concerning his selling his cemetery plot back to us. I have not called him back because I wanted to be able to either tell him the paperwork is on its way, or we're not going to go through with buying the plot back. Please advise. Thanks! Apparently Mr. Pappas has decided not to pursue the buyback once he left town. 2. If you get me the plot location, name/address of the woman and father, and any information she has re his will and fellow heirs [his wife and other children], I can look to see if there is anything in the County records re the plot. We can then prepare a deed for her to sign transferring any ownership she has [i.e., quitclaim deed] to the City. -----Original Message----- From: Vaughan, Karen Sent: Thursday, January 05, 2006 10:58 AM To: Dougall-Sides, Leslie Cc: Hollander, Gwen Subject: RE: Cemetery Deed / Buy Back / George Pappas Leslie, Two questions: 1) Did anything ever happen with this "buy back" for Mr. Pappas? I haven't heard anything more from him. 2) 1 just received a call from a woman wanting to sell back her space. However, we do not have a copy of the actual deed. It is recorded in the system as her father having bought it for $40.00 in 1946. She mentioned "donating" it back to the City if we weren't willing to buy it back. What is involved in a donation of a cemetery plot? Thanks! Because this space was purchased so long ago the return to Mr. Pappas would only be approx $125. With the code setting this out re the cemetery do we still have to do the appraisal? Although we have not repurchased a space in some time, the last time we did, we did not go through this process. By the way, we would not re-market the space but would rather have it under our ownership than Mr. Pappas sell it to a third party and us have no record of it. This sort of thing has caused us major headaches in the past. -----Original Message----- From: Vaughan, Karen Sent: Friday, September 30, 2005 1:39 PM To: Goudeau, Cyndie Subject: FW: Cemetery Deed / Buy Back / George Pappas Cyndie, Please advise....... Does the City wish to purchase the space? This is part of a "duplex" and a family member of Seller is buried in the adjoining space, limiting the marketability of the space. A determination needs to be made by management. 2. Per Charter Section 2.01(d)(5)(ix), an appraisal must be obtained, performed by city staff or an independent appraiser. 3. Per the Purchasing Code, it looks as if City Council approval would be necessary. Therefore, please advise Mr. Pappas that if the City determines to buy back, the earliest date for approval would be October 20. The transaction could be handled long distance if he has already moved by then. Earl, can you advise what the City's policy has been in the past re buyback of cemetery spaces, especially those where the other space(s) sold to the family as part of a "family plot" are already occupied? Our records do not reflect such a buyback in the last ten years. -----Original Message----- From: Hollander, Gwen Sent: Friday, September 30, 2005 11:41 AM To: Vaughan, Karen Cc: Dougall-Sides, Leslie Subject: RE: Cemetery Deed / Buy Back / George Pappas Karen, it's on Leslie's desk for approval.
