RESOLUTION
No. 61 -91
WHEREAS, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company lins made
application for a permit to reconstruct its fixed bridge across Slevonmun's
Creek at Clearwater, Florida; and
WHEREAS, plans submitted with said application show the
vertical clearance of the new bridge to be 1.5 foot loss than the
existing bridge; and ,
WHEREAS, navigation has increased considerably on Stovenson's
Creek and boaters are already having difficulty at times getting under the
present railroad bridge, such a lowering of the bridge would Inflict hard-
ship on public navigation on Stevenson'a Crook; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater is presently working with the
State Road Department of the State of Florida to install a now bridge at
an increased height over Stevenson's Creek where Alternate Highway 19
crosses said Creek; and .
WHEREAS, said permit must be issued by the U. S. Corps of
Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 13Y THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY
ASSEMBLED AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, P.O. Box
49ydf Jacksonville, Florida, be requested not to issuo a permit to the
Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company for its fixed bridge across
Stevenson's Creek at Clearwater, Florida, unless said now bridge has
a vertical clearance of at least nine feet and that building debris and
concrete footings for pilings be cleared from beneath the bridge to allow
free access for propeller driven boats and to provide for the greatly In-
creased boating traffic in that area, it being recognized as one of the
very few sheltered harbors in the immediate area.
2. That the District Engineer be requested to call a public hearing
on the matter because of the public interest in the matter, which said
public hearing should preferably be held in Clearwater, Florida.
3. That a certified copy of this Resolution be furnished said
District Engineer at Jacksonville, Florida.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of September, 1961.
