WHEREAS, the obsorvanco of National Flag Week has
for its purpose the inculcation of the meaning of true
Americanism into the minds and hearts•of all our citizens;
the marking of the anniversary of the adoption of the first
flag of the Nation; the directing of attention to the his-
tory of the Nation; the directing of attention to the his-
tory of and a reminder of our rights and privileges en-
joyed under the "Star-Spangled Banner" and our duties and
obligations resulting from their enjoyment; and,
WHEREAS, June 12th through June 18th, 1960, is the
183rd anniversary of the birth of the first flag of the
United States of America; and,
WHEREAS, the ideals of individual freedom, equal jus-
tice under law and representative government, are symbolized
by our Nation's flag;
NOVI THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY C01,114ISSION
OF fiHE CITY OF CLEARWATER FLORIDA, III SESSION DULY
AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, As FOLLOVJS:
1. That June 12th through June 1811h, 1960, be desig-
nated and observed as National Flag Week, and that June
14th, 19601 be designated and observed as`
"FLAG DAY"
and that this day be commemorative of the Resolution adop-
ted by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777 to estab-
lish the first flag of the United States.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, this 6th day of June, 1960.
