PROGRAM.
kMREAS, President Eisenhower in 1956 inaugurated the "People-
to-People" Program to establish greater friendship and understanding
between the peoples of the United States and other nations through
the medium of direct personal contact; and
;I WHEREAS, to implement this program the City of Clearwater and
other cities in the United Statos have been requested by the American
Municipal Association to affiliate with a foreign city of similar
characteristics and mutual Interests; and

WHEREAS
the Clearwater City-to-City Committee has selected

the city of Nagano, Japan as Clelarwater+s sister-oity for partici-
pation in said program; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission does recognize and endorse said
selection with the hope that it will, lead to a lasting friendship

. That this City Commission, on behalf of the people of Clearwater
t ?'rff`
hereby extends an invitation to the government and people of the city
of Nagano, Japan to participate with Clearwater as its sister-city in
President Eisenhower's "People-to-People" Program for the purpose of
creating good will and understanding between the peoples of our two
great nations.
SECTION 2.

That City Commissioner Cleveland 7nsco, Jr. is appointed as the
City's representative and Chairman of said program.
SECTION ?.
That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor of the City
of Nagano, to the United States Department of State and to the
American Municipal Association.
