WHEREAS, Memorial Causeway in the City of Clear-
water, Pinellas County, Florida, is directly connected
to and is an extension of State goad #60, and has former-
ly been designated as a State Road but the maintenance
thereof has never been assumed by the Florida State Road
Department; and,
WHEREAS, said Memorial Causeway is a highway facil-
ity which is used primarily by inter-city traffic origin-
ating on State Roads #60, #19, and #19A, and said Memorial
Causeway 3s so heavily used by inter-city traffic that it
is inappropriate that the maintenance thereof be borne by
the City of Clearwater; and,
WHEREAS, Pierce Boulevard and Pierce Street from its
connection with Memorial Causeway on the rest to its junct-
ure with State Road #60 via Greenwood Avenue on the East
is a connecting link to State Road #60, which will help
to relieve traffic congestion on State Road #60; and,
WHEREAS, Pierce Boulevard and Pierce Street has re-
cently been opened and paved through from its connection
with Memorial Causeway on the West to its juncture with
State Road #60 via Greenwood Avenue on the East and is
hence an additional traffic facility serving to make Memor-
ial Causeway more readily available to inter-city traffic;
and,
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater is willing to con-.
tinue to maintain the shrubs, flowers and trees along the
Causeway for its beautification, and in the absence of the

ability of the State Road Department to do so, is will-
ing,.to maintain and operate the double bascule draw span
at the Eastern end of said Causeway;
NOWT, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commis-
sion of the City of Clearwater, Florida, in session duly
and regularly assembled, as follows:
That the State Road Department of Florida is here-
by requested to assume the maintenance of that part of
State Road #60 in the City of Clearwater, Florida, from
Ft. Harrison Avenue westward to the Gulf of Mexico, ex-
cepting only that the City of Clearwater will maintain
the shrubs, flowers and trees along the Causeway for its
beautification, and will continue to maintain and operate
the double bascule draw span at the eastern end of said
Causeway, and that the City Clerk is directed to send
certified copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Wil-
bur E. Jones, Chairman, State Road Department, and to the
Honorable Albert L. Hogero, Member, State Road Department.
