ORDINANCE NO. 1692
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
AMENDING SECTION 9-10. 2, FIRE PREVENTON CODE--
AMENDMENTS, OF CHAPTER 9, FIRE PREVENTION, OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, 1962, TO DESIGNATE THE INSPECTOR AS THE
PERSON TO TAKE CHARGE IMMEDIATELY UPON THE
OCCURRENCE OF A SUSPICIOUS' FIRE AND TO INCREASE
THE SIZE OF THE LETTERING OF EXIT SIGNS; PROVIDING
FOR REPEAL OF ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDI-
NANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF
SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE
VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR THE
SEPARABILITY OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; PROVIDING
FOR PROPER NOTICE OF PROPOSED ENACTMENT; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1, Article 1, General Provisions, of Section 9-10.2,
Fire Prevention Code--Amendments, of Chapter 9, Fire Prevention, of
the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby
amended by adding the following paragraph to read as follows:
Sub-paragraph (a) of erection 1. 7, Investigation of Fires,
is amended to read as follows:
(a) The Bureau of Fire Prevention shall investigate the
cause, origin and circumstances of every fire occurring
in the municipality which is of suspicious nature or which
involves loss of life or injury to persons or by which property
has been destroyed or substantially damaged. Such '
investigations shall be begun immediately upon the occurrence
of such a fire by the Inspector, and, if it appears that such
fire is of suspicious origin, -the -Ghief-ef•tke-Fi"-Dep&i4mext.
shall be-media#ely 3xrtf;ed-0f-fih$ #aeis;-he shall take Charge
immediately of the physical evidence, shall notify the proper
authorities designated by law to pursue the investigation of such
matters, and shall further cooperate with the authorities in the
collection of evidence and in the, prosecution of the case.
(Section 2. Article 11, Exit Ways, Maintenance of, of Section 9-10.2,
Fire Prevention Code--Amendments, of Chapter 9, Fire Prevention, of the
Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby'
amended to read as follows:

Section 11. 2, Marking of Exit Waya, is amended by adding
thereto a subsection (c) to read as follows:
(c) All exit signs shall be of a edi .tinctlve red color and
shall provide contrast with decoratiox), interior finish
and other aigns. Lettering of inter ml exit signs shall be
a minimum of4-4JZ 6 inches high and 3/4 of an inch wide.

Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
Section 4. Any person, o*ganixation, society, association or
corporation, or any agent or representative thereof, who shall violate the
provisions of this ordinance shall be subject, upon conviction, to a fine not
exceeding the surnA of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or imprisoranent for
not exceeding sixty (60) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment in the
discretion of the Fudge.
Section 5. Should any section, paragraph, sentence or ward of this
ordinance be declared for any reason to be invalid, the same shall not affect
the validity of the ordinance as a whole., or any part thereof other than the

part declared to be invalid.
Section 6. Notice of the proposed enactment of this ordinance has been
properly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation in accordance with
Chapter 166.041, Florida Statutes.
Section 7. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage.
