ORDINANCE NO. 1596
' AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
AMENDING SECTION 2.24, SUPPLEMENTARY POLICE
PENSIONS AND RETIREMENT--NORMAL, EARLY AND
i DISABILITY RETIREMENT; EFFECT OF RE-.EMPLOYMENT
BY CITY, OF CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, 1962, TO PROVIDE THAT ANY POLICE OFFICER
HAVING TWENTY YEARS OF CREDITED SERVICE AND WHO
IS OFFICIALLY RETIRED UNDER THE CITY EMPLOYEES'
PENSION FUND, MAY AS AN OPTION RECEIVE A LUMP
SUM SETTLEMENT EQUAL TO THE SUM OF THE CASH
VALUE OF THOSE PENSION TRUST LIFE INSURANCE
CONTRACTS HELD BY THE TRUSTEES IN HIS NAME;
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT
OF SUCH CONFLICT; PROVIDING FOR THE SEPARABILITY
OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; PROVIDING FOR PROPER
NOTICE OF PROPOSED ENACTMENT; AND PROVIDING
FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Section Z-24, Supplementary Police Pensions and Retire-
ment--Normal, Early and Disability Retirement; Effect of Re-employment
by City, of Chapter Z, Administration; of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby amended by enacting a new sub-
section (E) to read as follows-
(E)Lump Sum Settlement Option.
Any Police Officer having twenty (20) years of credited
service and who is officially retired under the City
Employees' Pension Fund, may as an option receive a
lump sum settlement equal to the sum of the cash value
of those Pension Trust Life Insurance Contracts held by
the Trustees in his name, at the time of the request.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith

are to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the same shall not affect
the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the
part declared to be invalid.

Section 4. Notice of proposed enactmont of this ordinana3 has been
properly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation in accordance with,
Chapter 166. 041, Florida Statutes.
Section 5. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage.
