ORDINANCE NO. 1529
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, AMENDING CHAPTER 25, PERTAINING TO
VEHICLES FOR HIRE, ARTICLE I, TAXICABS, TO
INCREASE CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THE UNIFORM
SCHEDULE OF RATES FOR ALL TAXICAB OPERATORS
OPERATING TAXICABS EQUIPPED WITH APPROVED
TAXIMETERS; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL OF ALL
ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT;
PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF THIS
ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR THE SEPARABILITY OF
THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; PROVIDING FOR PROPER
NOTICE OF PROPOSED ENACTMENT; AND PROVIDING
FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section L. Section 25-32, Schedule of Rates, of Article 1, Taxicabs,
of Chapter 25, Vehicles for Hire, of the Code of Ordinances, of the City of
Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 25-32. Schedule of rates.
There is hereby established a uniform schedule of rates which
shall be adhered to and complied with by all taxicab operators
operating taxicabs equipped with an approved taximeter within
the City of Clearwater. Said uniform schedule of rates is as
follows :
(1) 600 drop (first 2/6 mile) then 10? each additional 1/6
mile for one or two passengers.
(2) 2'-minute limit from point of origin until customer is
in cab before driver trips the taximeter.
(3) Extras: 25? for handling everything over 2 grocery
bags, not to exceed 8 bags.
250 for handling 2 suitcases, 150 for each additional.
250 for each passenger in excess of 2.
(4) 100 for I minute waiting time.
(5) Hourly Rates: Standing $6. 00
Cruising $7.00
(6) The taximeter clocking device shall be so regulated as
to activate when the vehicles slow to 12 miles per hour
or less and shall reflect a rate of 10? per minute or
$6. 00 per hour.
It shall be unlawful for any driver, operator or chauffeur of any=
meter equipped taxicab to charge a fare either greater or less
than the fare as registered on said taximeter. Said schedule of
rates shall be subject to review and change by the City Commission
at any time.
Section 2.'- All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
'to the extent of such conflict are hereby repealed.

Section 3. Any person, organization, society, association or
corporation, or any agent or representative thereof who shall violate any
provisions of this Ordinance or fail to comply therewith., or who shall
violate or fail to comply with any ardor made thereunder shall, upon
conviction in the Municipal Court, be fined not exceeding the sum of
Five Hundred Dollars ($500. 00), or imprisoned in the City Jail for not
exceeding sixty (60) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment,' in the
discretion of the Municipal Judge.
Section 4. Should any section, paragraph, sentence or word of
this Ordinance be declared for any reason to be invalid, the same shall not
affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than
the part declared to be invalid.
Section 5. Notice of the proposed enactment of this Ordinance has
been properly advertised in a newspaper of general circulation in accordance
with Chapter 166. 041, Florida Statutes.
Section 6. This Ordinance shall become effective November 1, 1974.
