FLORIDA, 1962, TO AMEND AND CLARIFY RENEWAL PROCEDURE FOR CERTI- FICATION OF JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN; TO CLARIFY APPLICATION OF NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1968 EDITION; TO AMEND SPECIAL REGU-' LATIONS TO DEFINE COMMERCIAL CLASSIFICATION AND SET FORTH MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR RECEPTACLE OUTLETS AND TO OMIT REQUIRE- MENTS THAT OVERHEAD SERVICE CONDUCTORS SHOULD BE ENCLOSED IN RIGID CONDUIT; TO PROVIDE A PENALTY FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY THEREWITH; TO PROVIDE FOR REPEAL OF ORDI- NANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH TO THE EXTENT OF SUCH CONFLICT; TO PROVIDE FOR THE SEPARABILITY OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE. ORDINANCE NO. 1333 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: Section 1. Section 7-48, Certification--Renewal Procedure, of Gbapter 7, Article III, pertaining to Electricity, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is amended by hereby repealing I L, Sub-section (d) thereof. Section 2. Sub-section (al of Section 7-66, National Electrical Code-- Application; penalty, of Chapter 7, Article III, pertaining to Electricity, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows : Sec. 7-66. National Electrical Code--Application; penalty. Section 7-68;= Special Regulations, of Chapter 7, Article 111, pertaining to Electricity, of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clearwater, Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 7-68. Special regulations. (1) Any occupancy group not classified residential shall be classified as commercial. In commercial buildings, the minimum requirements for receptacle outlets shall be separate circuit extending from the branch circuit panel to the middle of the side walls terminating in at least one (1) duplex receptacle. (2) Service Grounding - if the grounding electrode connection is made inside of a building, (except large commercial installations) then an additional made electrode shall be provided outside. (3) Temporary power poles shall be used for construction purposes only and shall not be used to supply power for any permanent structure. {4) All circuits shall be identified at its overcurrent device. (5) Every kitchen shall have at least two appliance circuits supplying not more than two outlets each, with a minimum of 20 ampacity conductors. (6) All circuits according to NEC, with the following exceptions: RESIDENTIAL - 15 ampacity conductors - lights and receptacles 8 per circuit and fused at 15 amperes. COMMERCIAL - (a) 20 ampacity - lights and receptacles - 8 per circuit or calculate load. (b) 15 ampacity - lights only and fused at 15 amperes. (7) All water heaters shall have a minimum of 30 ampacity conductors where non-metallic sheathed cable is the wiring method. (8) All lights in kitchen, bathroom, garage, utility rooms, and all other grounded surfaces within reach of metal piping or plumbing fixtures shall be controlled by wall switches. (9) Disconnect means for furnaces shall be properly identified and readily accessible. J (10) Electrical metallic tubilig shall not be run in or directly on concrete slabs which are in, direct contact with the earth. Aluminum conduit shall not be buried in the earth or encased in concrete. (11) On new construction all panels shall have a minimum of two (2) spare circuits. (12) A separate sign circuit raceway shall be installed in all store or public buildings (new or remodeled). This raceway shall have an outlet or junction box not more than three (3} feet from the front of the building and then extend to the exterior and terminate in a sign enclosure or weathertite enclosure. Any person, organization, society, association or Section 4. ,;F „ - • , ,-? corporation, or an agent or representative thereof who shall violate an provision of this Ordinance shall be subject, upon conviction in the Municipal Court, to a fine not exceeding the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500. 00), or imprisonment in the City Jail for not exceeding sixty (60) days. or by both such fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the Municipal Judge. Any violation of the provisians of this Ordinance may also be grounds for ' M the City of Clearwater to suspend or revoke the offending party's contractor's , or sub-contractor's license issued by the City of Clearwater. Each day's continuance of any violation of this Ordinance shall constitute a separate offense. The imposition of one penalty for any violation shall not excuse the violation or permit it to continue; and all such persons shall be required to correct or remedy such violations or defects within a reasonable time. Section 5. All former ordinances or parts thereof conflicting or inconsistent with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed. Section b. Should any section, paragraph, sentence or word of this ordinance be declared for any reason to be invalid, the same shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the part declared to be invalid.
