ORDINANCE NO. 1220
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, AMENDING SECTION 9-1, FIRE DEPART-
MENT, APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF, AND SECTION
9-2, FIRE DEPARTMENT, DUTIES OF CHIEF, OF
CHAPTER 9, FIRE PREVENTION, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES, CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
196x, TO PROVIDE FOR THE PROCEDURE FOR THE
APPOINTMENT, OF THE FIRE CHIEF AND TO CLARIFY
HIS DUTIES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS
OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PRO-
VIDING FOR THE SEPARABILITY OF THE PROVISIONS
HEREOF; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE
OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Section 9-1, Fire Department, Appointment of Chief,
of Chapter 9, Fire Prevention, of the Code of Ordinances, City of Clearwater,
Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 9-1. Fire department--Appointment of Chief.
The Appointing Authority of the City under its Civil Service
law shall appoint a Chief of the Fire Department.
Section 2. Section 9-2, Fire Department, Duties of Chief, of
Chapter 9, Fire Prevention, of the Code of Ordinances, City of Clearwater,
Florida, 1962, is hereby amended to read as follows;
Sec. 9-2. Fire department--Duties of Chief.
The duties of the Chief of the Fire Department shall be to have
charge and control of the fire department of the City and any
other fire fighting assistance whose service may be offered in
the extinguishment of fire and protection of the City from fire.
He, or his duly authorized representative, shall order and
superintend the work of such company and shall from time to
time make such recommendations as he thinks proper for the better
and more adequate protection of the City.
Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
Section 4. Should any part or provision of this ordinance be declared
by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the same shall not affect

the validity of the ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof other than the
part declared to be invalid.
Section 5. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
its passage.
