AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION ON
OCTOBER 15, 1957, FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING
WHETHER OR NOT CHAPTER 57-1227 SPECIAL ACTS
OF FLORIDA OF 1957 PERTAINING TQ THE REDEFINING
OF THE BOUNDARIES 6F THE CITY OF CLEARTWATER FLOR-
IDA, TO INCLUDE CERTAIN PROPERTY 0 BE ANNEhD
THERETO, SHALL BE RATIFIED; PROVIDING FOR REGIS-
TRATION AND QUALIFICATION OF ELECTORS; PROVIDING
FOR THE MANNER AND CONDUCT OF SAID ELECTION• PRO-
VIDING FOR THE DESIGNATION OF POLLING PLACE AND
OFFICIALS IN CONNECTION WITH SAID ELECTION; PRO-
VIDING FOR PUBLICATION OF NOTICE OF THE PURPOSE
OF SAID ELECTION, THE POLLING PLACES AND THE CLASS
OF PERSONS ELIGIBLE TO VOTE THEREIN; PROVIDING FOR
DETERMINING THE RESULTS OF SAID ELECTION AND CERTI-
FYING SAID RESULTS TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE AND
PROVIDING FOA THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEWIATER :
Section 1. That a special election shall be held in the
manner herein provided and according to appropriate laws and ordi-
nances of the City of Clearwater and State of Florida, on Tuesday,
October 15, 1957, for the purpose of determining whetheror not Chapter
57-1227 Special Acts of Florida of 1957, shall be ratified, said
Act pertaining to the redefinition of the boundaries of the City of
Clearwater to include annexing certain property thereto.
Section 2. At said special election, Chapter 57•-1227

Special Acts of Florida of 1957 shall, be submitted to a separate vote
of the qualified electors who are registered freeholders residing in
the City of Clearwater as presently constituted and in the area which
would be annexed to the City of Clearwater by ratification of said
Special Act. Separate polling places shall be provided in the area
to be annexed and in the City,and the vote in the City and in the area
to be annexed shall be independently counted.
Section 3. Persons shall be considered as qualified free-
holders residing in the respective area who shall be registered as
such according to law, as evidenced by the records of the Supervisor
of Registration of Pinellas County, Florida, and as shown on a certi-
fied list thereof submitted,to the City Clerk by said Supervisor

Mayor-Commissioner of the City of Clearwater shall appoint them. 'Rhere
possible, Inspectors and Clerks shall be residents of the precinct in
which they are serving.
Section 10. Voting machines sha11 be usod and the ballot
shall contain the following question and be in the following form:
I'D.g you favor the ratification of. Chapter
77-1227 , Special Acts of Florida,
1957, redefining the boundary lines of the
City of Clearwater, Florida, to annex and
include the areas therein described?"
Section il, At least three true sample copies of said Spec-
ial Act shall be posted at each polling place and said Special. Act
and a copy of a map showing the area to be annexed shall be published
in full in a newspaper of general circulation in Clearwater, Florida,
one time at least ten (10) days prior to said election.
Section 12. The result of the voting shall be certified by
returns in duplicate signed by the Clerk and a majority of the election
inspectors. One copy of such return shall be delivered to theMayor--
Commissioner and the other copy to the City Clerk, both of whom shall
transmit such returns to the City Commission at a meeting to be held
at 12 o'clock noon Eastern Standard Time on the day following the elect-
ion. At such meeting the City Commission shall canvass the returns and
shall independently total the vote for and against-the passage of said
Special Act in the City of Clearwater, and the vote for and against the
passage of said Special Act in the area to be annexed. Said Act shall
be effective upon.its ratification by a majority of those persons quali-
fied as aforesaid and actually voting both: (1) in said City and (2) in
the area to be annexed,
Section 13. The result of the voting on said Special Act shall
be certified to the Secretary of the State of the State ofFlorida in ac-
cordance with Section 100,351, Florida Statutes.
Section 14. This ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its passage.
