AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THAT THE DANGER TO CIIILDRE14
IN THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, FROM UNATTENDED
ICE BOXES, REFRIGERATORS AI4D OTHER CONTAINERS CON-

OF THE PLACING AND S' ORING OF SAME; PROVIDING PENAL-
TIES FOR NONCOMPLIANCE IIEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the City of Clearwater,
norida, in that instances have been reported in other cities
of death due to suffocation of children in abandoned, unattended
ice bones, re.frigcrat?•ors and other containers having air-tight:
doors, which when closed cannot be opened from the inside, and
WHEREAS, these abandoned, unattended or discarded ice
boxes, refrigerators or other containers are a constant menace
to the health welfare: and safety of children in the City of
Clearwater, Horida.
NOI'!, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COIZUSSION OF
,THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA: ,
Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to leave outside of any building or dwelling in a place
accessible to children any abandoned, unattended or discarded ice
box, refrigerator or any other container of any kind which'has'an
,.air-tight door, or lock which may not be f•eleased for opening from'
the inside of said ice box, refrigerator or container.
Section 2. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to leave outside of any building or dwelling in a place
accessible to children, any abandoned, unattended, or discarded ice
box, refrigerator or any cther container of any kind having an air-
tight `door, snap-lock or other device thereon, without first remov-
inG'the said snap-lock or door,-from said ice box, refrigerator or
container.

Section 3. Any person, firm or corporation violating any
of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not exceeding
One Hundred Dollars or by imprisonment'for not more than Thirty
Days. Each day such violation is committed or permitted to continue,
shall constitute.a separate offense andL$$6ni.shable as such hereunder.
Section tF. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon its passage.
