HESOLUTION REQUESTING THE FLORIDA STATE
LEGISLATURE TO ASSIST THE CITY OF CLEARWATER
It-l PRESERVING COOPER'S POIt-lT I.N ITS t-lATURAL
Et-lVIRO.NME.NT Fci'R THE HEALTH A.ND WELFARE OF
THE CITIZ ENS.
WHEREAS, Cooper's Point is a peninsula within the City of
Clearwater containing mangr!lves which create a natural filtration system
that helps to purify the water in Old Tampa Bay; and
" WHEREAS, Cooper's Point is also a haven for many varieties of
birds and aquatic lifc; and
WHEREAS, it would be most advantageous to the health and welfare
of the citizens of the area that this peninsula be preserved in its natural
state and net be developed; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater desires
and needs the assistance of the Florida State Legislature in purchasing
this peninsula;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSIOt-l OF THE CITY OF CLEAR WATER, FLORIDA,
I!\l SESSIO.N DULY A!\lD REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater hercby
fequests the Florida State Legislature to assist the City in the prescrvation
of Cooper's Point in its natural environment by purchase of the peninsula.
Z. That a copy of this Resolution bc forwarded to the Governor
of Fbrida, the President of the Florida Senate, the Speaker of the Florida
HOUl!:! of Representatives, and to the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation.
3. That this Resolution become effective immediately upon its
pas sage.
