RESOLUTION
No. U3 - 41
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, URGING THE PINELLAS COUNTY BOARD
OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO LEVY A LOCAL
OPTION GAS TAX FOR TRANSPORTATION PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the streets and roads within Pinellas County,. Florida,
and the various municipalities are in need oC repair, widening and other
maintenance in order to O\eet the increasing use of such roads~ and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature authorized County governments,
under certain specified conditions, to levy, without referendum, up to four
cents per gallon on motoz: fuels sold within the county, which revenues must
be shared with the cities in that countyi and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater desires
to urge the Board of County Commissioners to levy such a tax on motor !uels
in order to assist the various municipalities in the neces sary maintenance
and repair of their streets and roads;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
L.'f SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater urges the
Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners to ~~vy a tax on motor fuels
as authori~d by the State Legislature as expeditiously as possible.
2. .That a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Chairman of
the Board of County Commissioners of Pinellas County. Florida.
3. That this Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
its pa s sage.
