A RESOLUTION OF THE CrrY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, UROINO THE
METROPOLITAN PLANNING OROANIZATION OF
PINELLAS COUNTY AND THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION TO ACCELERATE THE CON'..
STRUCTION SCHEDULE FOR IMPROVINO STATE
ROAD 60 BETWEEN U. s. 19 AND McMULLEN BOOTH
ROAD.
WHEREAS. the' long range thoroughtarc plans ot the City of Clearwater,
Pinellas County and the Metropolitan Planning Organization recognize the
need to increase the carrying capacity of State Road 60 between U. S. 19
and McMullen..Booth Road: and
WHEREAS, State Road 60 between U. S. 19 and McMullen-Booth Road
currently carries daily traffic yolumes well in excess of its design capacity:
and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation has completed
corridor design studies for the proposed widening. and preliminary engineering
and design studies are scheduled for completion this fiscal year: and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater has been working with adjacent
laridowners to provide for right-or~way dedication at time of land development.
effecting a signifi:ant reduction in the additional amount of right-of~way
needed; and
WHEREAS, it appears likely that additional funding will be made
available through increases in the federal gasoline tax:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA IN SESSION DULY AND
REOULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS FOLLOWS:
I. That the City Commission hereby acknowledges the cooperation of
the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Florida Department of Transpor-
taHon Improyement Program.
2. That there is a strong and increasing need for widening State Road
60 due to increasing development along this corridor: however due to lack of
funding, construction of this improvement is not scheduled until 1990~
