81-78E sr R E S O L U T I O N No. 81 - 78 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, NAMING "MOCCASIN LAKE NATURE PARK" WHEREAS, the City is the owner of a 50.80 M.O.L. acre parcel of real property located at U.S. Highway 19 at the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad tracks, which has been purchased for recreation use; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Board has recommended that this property be named "Moccasin Lake Nature Park"; and . WHEREAS, the Nature Park will be of City-wide significance; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires to formally name this park in accordance with the criteria established in Resolution No. 80-82 passed on August 7, 1980; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That in accordance with the criteria previously established, the 50.80 M.O.L. acre parcel of real property located on U.S. Highway 19 at the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad tracks, be named "Moccasin Lake Nature Park." 2. WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida, i wishes to establish a more uniform policy and procedure for providing a name for City parks and recreation facilities; and Zh S`'• H43-'E WHEREAS, the policy and procedure was last considered in Resolution No. '75-137, adopted October 16, 1975; and WHEREAS, the City Commission at its meeting of April 17, 1980, directed the formulation of a new policy and procedure; NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, Y IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida, hereby adopts the following policy and procedure as the one it will utilize in providing a name for future City parks and recreation facilities: (a) Each park to be named will be given special and individual consideration. (b) Neighborhood homeowners associations should be contacted when considering names for parks located in their neighborhoods. (c) Parks may be named in honor of an individual; however, this would occur only on rare occasions and only when the individual has given lengthy civic service to the Clearwater community. (d) In the event a park is named after an individual, that individual should be of local importance rather than of State or National prominence. (e) Persons serving on the Parks and Recreation Board, another City lay board, or on the City Commission will not be eligible to have a facility named after them during their tenure of office. (f) In a majority of cases, parks should be named after geographic features, locations, streets, etc. (g) In the event the park property is donated, the donor should be allowed the privilege of submitting a preference for a narne. (h) The Parks and Recreation Board will be allowed to evaluate and maka a final recommendation to the City Commission for names of all future City parks and recreation facilities.
