RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO CONTINUE FUNDING FOR
THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY ACT AND SUPPORTING
CLEARWATER BRANCH OF THE NAACP IN ITS EFFORTS
TO RETAIN SUCH FUNDING.
WHEREAS, the Federal Government is presently revising its
budget and as a part of such process is cutting programs; and
WHEREAS, the Economic Opportunity Act applies to a series of
programs which have assumed great importance to low and moderate income
people; and
WHEREAS, the Clearwater Branch of the NAACP is strongly
supporting continuation of this program, such support being exhibited in the
Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit A; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to support continuation
of the Federal programs and support the efforts being made by the Clearwater
Branch of the NAACP;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
wishes to go on record as supporting continuation of the Economic Opportunity
Act and supporting the efforts of the Clearwater Branch of the NAACP as
illustrated in the Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit A.
2. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Senator Lawton Chiles,
Senator Paula Hawkins, Congressman C. W. "Bill" Young and Congressman
Bill McCollum.

WHEREAS, the present Federal Administration in Washington has
proposed not to reauthorize the Economic Opportunity Act and bring

will place heavy and severe tax burdens on states and local governments

WHEREAS, funds expended to cope with such unrest, civil disturbance

WHEREAS, this nation must maintain one (1) Federal agency that would

NAACP encourages the Administration and the Congress to make a
serious examination of the proposed budget cuts, restore those programs
that are designed to help the nation's poor and elderly and handicapped
persons and seek other measures to balance the Federal budget.
BE it further resolved that the Community Services Administration should
be preserved as the Federal agency to coordinate all and fund many of
the programs designed to reduce human misery and suffering among the
nation'd poor.
