RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA SUPPORTING THE
APPLICATION OF THE DIOCESE OF ST. PETERSBURG,
FOR FUNDING UNDER SECTION ZOZ OF THE HOUSING
ACT OF 1959, AS AMENDEDI FOR PROVISION OF
HOUSING FOR ELDERLY CITIZENS, AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission is aware of the need for suitable
housing for many of the City's retired citizens of low and moderate income;
and
WHEREAS, continuing inflation creates hardship on elderly citizens, '
many of whom live on modest fixed incomes: and
WHEREAS, Section 20Z of the Housing Act of 1959, as amended,
provides for low interest, long-term, direct mortgag~ financing by the
United States Department of Housing and Ul'ban Development for the
construction and operation of nan-profit retirement facilities; and
WHEREAS. the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg has proposed to
develop a Section 202 retirement housing facility for the elderly of
Clearwater, such facility to be owned and operated by st. Cecilia's Housing,
Inc., a Florida non-profit corporation: and
WHEREAS, such facilities are desperately needed by many of our
retired citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITy
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA.
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOvrS:
1. That the application of the Diocese of St. Petersburg, to the
Department of Housing and Urban Development for funding under Section 2.02.
for the development and operation of an approximately IQQHunlt housing
facilIty for the elderly is hereby supported.
Z. This resolution shall became effective immediately upon its
adoption.
