RESOLUTION NO. 99-49
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, DECLARING
SUPPORT FOR THE PINELLAS TRAIL AS A DESIGNATED MILLENNIUM
TRAIL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the construction of the Pine lias Trail was initiated in 1990 and has
served to connect the entire County since it runs north/south 35 miles through the urban
area of Pine lias County; and
WHEREAS, the Pinellas Trail is a 15-foot wide, paved facility that is continuous and
is designed for use by bicyclists, pedestrians and rollerbladers; and
WHEREAS, the Plnellas Trail Is now widely accepted within the community for not
only extensive recreational use. but also as a symbol of another way to travel for such
purposes as shopping, school. work and other non-recreational purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Pine lias Trail has brought the communities of Pinellas County
together by openly traversing the urban area with free access by the general public along
the entire corridor; and
WHEREAS, the Pinellas Trail has generated considerable pedestrian-friendly
development and land uses through the area that it traverses; and
WHEREAS, the Pinellas Trail has become internationally recognized as a facility that
has been recognized as a model pedestrian transportation corridor to visit and use; and
WHEREAS, the White House has established a program to recognize Trails
throughout the Country that have established a reputation in their area for providing a
significant means of transportation and have become a significant aspect of their
community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Pine lias Trail is supported as a Millennium Trail under the White
House Millennium Trail program.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
