RESOLUTION
No. 79 - 70
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE METROPOLITAN
PLANNING ORGANIZATION TO PLACE THE IMPROVEMENT
OF THE BRIDGES ON EITHER END OF THE MEMORIAL
CAUSEWAY IN THE FIVE YEAR TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the flow of traffic on Memorial Causeway during the
peak periods has increased beyond the capacity of the two bridges which
are a part of the Causeway; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that the emergency road presently being
constructed along the South Bide of the Causeway could provide substantial
relief if improvements were made to the bridges on either end of the
Causeway; and
WHEREAS, in order to finance this improvement it is necessary
that certain state and federal funds be used and the project must therefore
be placed in the Five Year Transportation Improvement Program; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization is the agency
authorized to initiate the steps necessary to have such improvement to the
Causeway placed in the Five Year Transportation Improvement Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission hereby requests and urges the
Metropolitan Planning Organization to initiate the steps necessary to have
the widening and improvement of the bridges on either end of the Memorial
Causeway placed in the Five Year Transportation Improvement Program.
2, That the City Commission further urges the Florida Department
of Transportation to accept the recommendations of the Metropolitan
Planning Organization and immediately place this important project in
the Five Year Transportation Improvement Program.
