No. 79 - 52
A RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE
REENACTMENT OF FEDERAL REVENUE SHARING
ASSISTANCE TO STATE AND LOCAL GOVERM'IENTS,
WHEREAS, the City Commission of Clearwater, Florida, has
as its primary goal the provision of efficient and adequate local government
services to its citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is generally well known that units of local government
are most restricted in their ability to generate revenues; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of Clearwater, Florida, one such
local government unit, is anticipating insufficient local revenues with which
to provide existing services; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of Clearwater, Florida has relied
upon the continued receipt of General Revenue Sharing Funds from the
Federal Government in order to supplement other revenue sources; and
WHEREAS, the reenactment of Federal General Revenue Sharing
Legislation is of vital importance to the continued economic health of the
City of Clearwater, Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
on behalf of its citizens, strongly recommends that each elected representative
in the United States Congress take every action necessary to guarantee the
continued receipt by those local governments within their jurisdiction of
Federal Revenue Sharing Funds.
2'. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith to
Senator Lawton Chiles, Senator Richard Stone, Representative C. W. Bill
Young and Representative Richard Kelly.
