No. 79 - 35
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING
THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO CHANGE THE AGE
LIMIT UNDER WHICH ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
MAY BE OBTAINED FROM EIGHTEEN TO TWENTY-
ONE YEARS OF AGE,
WHEREAS, present beverage laws, specifically Section 562. 11,
Florida Statutes, and Section 562. 111, Florida Statutes, set the age limits
under which alcoholic beverage may be sold and possessed as eighteen (18)
years of age; and
WHEREAS, the number of automobile accidents occurring in each
community wherein drinking was a factor has increased; and
WHEREAS, a significant number of persons in the eighteen (18)
year old category have been involved in auto accidents involving drinking;
and
WHEREAS, the City Commission would like to suggest to the State
Legislature that consideration be given to increasing the age limit under
which alcoholic beverage may be sold and possessed to twenty-one (21)
years of age;
NOW, THEREFOZE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commis lion of the City of Clearwater hereby
requests that the State Legislature give immediate consideration to amending
the statutes under which alcoholic beverage is sold and possessed to increase
the age limit from eighteen (18) years of age to twenty-one (21) years of age.
2. That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to the Governor of the
State of Florida, the Attorney General of the State of Florida, the Pinellas
County Legislative Delegation. Pinellas County Board of County
Commissioners, each municipality in Pinellas County, Florida,' and the
President of the Tampa Bay Area Chiefs of Police Association.
