A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING CONGRESS
TO EXPAND ITS INVESTIGATION OF CULTS TO INCLUDE
AN INVESTIGATION OF CULTS LOCATED IN THE CITY 'r
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
WHEREAS, Congress, through one of its committees, is presently
conducting an investigation of activities and actions by cults in this country;
and
WHEREAS, an organization known as the Church of Scientology has
moved into Clearwater, Florida, and become very active in acquiring property
:. throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, such organization has declared its intent to make Clearwater
its home base; and
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the City Commission of the City of
Clearwater that Congress should expand its investigation to ascertain the
purpose of this organization and the effect it can have upon a community
such as Clearwater;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
hereby requests the Congressional Committee presently investigating cults
to expand its activity to include in its investigation the activities and purposes
of the Church of Scientology presently located in the City of Clearwater,
Florida.
Z. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Senator
Robert Dole, Chairman of the Congressional Committee; Senator Lawton
Chiles; Senator Richard Stone; Representative C. W. Bill Young; and
Representative Richard Kelly.
