A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
OPPOSING THE PROPOSED LOCAL BILL EXTENDING THE
CLOSING HOURS OF BARS FROM 2 A, M, TO 3 A, M.
WHEREAS, current legislation establishes that the closing time for
bars In Pinellas County is presently 2 A.M.; and
WHEREAS, a proposed local bill presently under consideration would
a rv: change the current time by extending the opening hours to 3 A. M. ; and

' WHEREAS, such a change in the closing time will result in increased
` public safety costs for the City of Clearwater in that the City of Clearwater

will need more policemen during that additional time period; and
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Police Department of the City of

Clearwater that providing extended hours will result in more arrests for
driving while intoxicated; and

WHEREAS, a serious problem already exists with respect to such

arrests in processing them through the Court, which problem will be compounded;

WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater wishes to go
on record in opposition to this local bill;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS;
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
hereby wishes to go on record as being opposed to the proposed local bill
which would change the closing hours for bars located in Pinellas County
by extending the time from z A. M. to 3 A.M., and the City Commission
further requests the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation to defeat this
proposal.
2. That a certified copy of this.Resolution be forwarded to the
Chairman of the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation.
