A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER DECLARING ITS OPPOSITION
TO PROPOSITION NO. 9 APPEARING ON THE NOVEMBER,
1978, BALLOT RELATING TO CASINO GAMBLING.
WHEREAS, on November 7, 1978, Proposition No. 9, amending the
Florida Constitution to authorize casino gambling in the Miami area will
appear on the ballot; and
WHEREAS, it is established that casino gambling serves to bring
into an area criminal elements and influence such as will impact on the
area where the gambling is permitted; and
WHEREAS, establishing casino gambling in one area of Florida will
ultimately lead to such gambling being established in areas of Florida including
Pinellas County; and
WHEREAS, the great majority of police agencies have gone on record
as opposing Proposition No. 9; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater wishes
to go on record indicating its opposition to Proposition No. 9; Y
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
