A RESOLUTION URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION TO COMBINE THE CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACTS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF STATE ROAD
60 (GULF TO BAY BOULEVARD) BETWEEN COURTNEY
CAMPBELL CAUSEWAY AND STATE ROAD 55 (U, S. 19)
AND THE RESURFACING AND IMPROVEMENTS TO
COURTNEY CAMPBELL CAUSEWAY,
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation is undertaking
a project to resurface and improve the Courtney Campbell Causeway; and
WHEREAS, the project is planned to end at the Florida Department
of Transportation Maintenance Office near the West terminus of the
Causeway; and
WHEREAS, State Road 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard) is narrow, has a
rough, deteriorated riding surface, and shows signs of base failure; and
WHEREAS, traffic movement will be improved across the Causeway
only to be restricted and hampered from the end of the Causeway to the inter-
section with S. R. 55 (U. S. 19); and
WHEREAS, it would be to the best interest of the motoring public
to improve said segment of S. R. 60 (Gulf to Bay Boulevard) along with the
Courtney Campbell Causeway improvement; and
WHEREAS, Courtney Campbell Causeway will be under construction
for an estimated 550 days requiring flagmen and other means of traffic
control, thereby restricting traffic movement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission urges the Florida Department of
Transportation to include the improvement of S. R. 60 between Courtney
Campbell Causeway and S. R. 55 (U. S. 19) in the same contract with the
resurfacing and improvements to the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

2. That the City Commission of Clearwater, Florida, expresses
its extreme concern to the Florida Department of Transportation for the
movement of traffic and safety of motorists on this incompleted segment
of S. R. 6Q (Gulf to Bay Boulevard).
3. That the Construction of the Gulf to Bay segment be included in
the same time schedule as the Courtney Campbell segment thereby reduping
the inconvenience to the traveling public to a minimum; however, support
of Gulf to Bay widening should not substantially delay the Courtney
Campbell project.

4. That if the widening of Gulf to Bay cannot be accomplished in
conjunction with the Courtney Campbell project, that the Florida Department
of Transportation widen Gulf to Bay to U. S. 19 in the immediate future.
S. That the construction time permitted for the project be carefully
re-evaluated and be reduced to an absolute minimum.
6. That certified copies of the foregoing resolution be furnished to
the Florida Department of Transportation, the members of the Pinellas
Legislative Delegation, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and to
the Board of County Commissioners of Pinellas County, Florida.
