A RESOLUTION OF THE CLEARWATER CITY
COMMISSION ENDORSING THE CONCEPTUAL PLAN
PREPARED AND PRESENTED BY THE TAMPA BAY
AREA RAPID TRANSIT AUTHORITY,
WHEREAS, the Tampa Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority has conducted
a long range study of transportation needs for the regional area of which the
City of Clearwater is a part; and
WHEREAS, the plan has been presented to the City Commission of
the City of Clearwater, and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to endorse the regional
express bus concept which also includes improved and expanded local
transit service; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission in endorsing the concept contained
in the plan wishes also to make several recommendations relating to
implementation of the plan;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater hereby
endorses the conceptual long range transit plan prepared and presented by
the Tampa Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority,
2. That in implementing this plan the City Commission of the City
of Clearwater hereby makes the following recommendations as they relate
to the City of Clearwater:
(a) That preferential express bus service to Clearwater
Beach using Memorial Causeway be established;
(b) That continued consideration of an alternate mode of
transportation to and from Clearwater Beach be undertaken;

(c) That a "Park and Ride" facility be located in the downtown
j and'Clearwat'er Mall sections of Clearwater to provide a
third focus to the Tampa and St. Petersburg connections; and
(d) That the schedule for preferential bus lanes be reevaluated
to coordinate with the capital acquisition schedule.
3. That a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
-Metropolitan Planning Organization for Pinellas County.
