RESOLUTION
No, 77 - 43
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOAhD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS TO KEEP THE PRESENT JAIL FACILITY
AND CRIMINAL COURT FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is presently considering
building a new jail and criminal court facility near the St. Petersburg-Clearwater
International Airport complex;,and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater is the present County Seat; and
WHEREAS, removal of the present facilities will cause a substantial
change in the concept that the City of Clearwater is the County Seat, and
WHEREAS, moving of such facilities will occasion increased costs to
the City of Clearwater, an example of which would be the increased cost of ;
having policemen and other inspectors travel to such new facility and spend
additional time there; and
WHEREAS, moving of such facilities will cause undue hardship on
Clearwater citizens, causing them needless travel time and expense; and
WHEREAS, it is the belief of the City Commission that the need for
such facility has not been adequately demonstrated;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater wishes to go
on record as being in opposition to the erection of a new jail and criminal court
complex at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport complex and
requests the Board of County Commissioners to vote against implementation
of such a project.

Z.' That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith to
the Chairman and each member of the Board of County Commissioners and
to the County Adrlinistrator.
