RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, present postal rates for first class trail are the same
whether the item being mailed will be going only a short distance or many
=n;s miles; and
WHEREAS, it would be in the interest of all citizens to differentiate
? Z ffij between mail being forwarded a short distance and mail traveling a long

distance; and

WHEREAS, due to the large volume of mail traveling short distances
within the confines of a relatively small geographical area, amore favorable

rate structure should be established differentiating the cost of such mail
and mail traveling much greater distances; and
WHEREAS, cutbacks in delivery service within municipalities have
occurred and will continue to occur; and
WHEREAS, continuous increases in postal rates will only engender
further increases by reduced usage of the service in populous areas, and
WHEREAS, citizens within the various municipalities and other
small geographical areas need relief from ever increasing postal rates;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION REGULARLY AND DULY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS
1. That the City Commission officially urges the Congressional
Delegation, including representatives of the House and Senate, to under-
take a study and establish a local or state postal zone and separate rate
structure that can be utilized in handling mailings to be delivered within
a short distance from the point of origin.
2. That certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted forthwith
to each Congressmen and Senators representing our area.
