WHEREAS, State Road 60 (Memorial Causeway) is the only route
connecting the mainland of Clearwater to the beaches; and
WHEREAS, State•Read 60 (Memorial Causeway) has an annual average
daily traffic volume of z6, 000 vehicles; and
WHEREAS, on peak days the traffic volume is approximately 35, 000
vehicles, and massive congestion occurs during hours when the number of
vehicles returning to the mainland exceeds the capacity to discharge from
Memorial Causeway; and
WHEREAS, the installation of reversible lanes would provide additional
capacity without widening of the existing roadway; and
WHEREAS, such installation must be approved by the Florida
Department of Transportation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater hereby officially requests the Florida
Department of Transportation to arrange for the installation of reversible
lanes with appropriate signals or other devices to direct traffic in the proper
use of said lanes, on State Road 60 (Memorial Causeway) in the City of
Clearwater, Florida.
Z. That a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted forthwith
