WHEREAS,,the Pinellas County Transportation Authority is considering
a North-South Expressway through Pinellas County; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Clearwater have expressed deep concern
regarding the various proposed locations of such an expressway; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission feels that this expressway and its
location should be done in coordination with the Tampa Bay Area Regional
Transit Authority and that mass and rapid transit plans should be taken into
consideration in such location; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission further feels that when a final route
is selected that the matter be placed on the ballot as a referendum item for
the electors' approval or disapproval thereof;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater hereby officially requests the Pinellas
County Transportation Authority to coordinate its efforts for the location of
the proposed North-South Expressway with the Tampa Bay Area Regional
Transit Authority and to take into consideration the mass and rapid transit plans
now being considered,
2. Further, that the said Authority, because of the deep concern of
the citizens of Clearwater concerning this expressway, when a final route is
selected that the matter be placed on the ballot as a referendum item for the
approval or disapproval of the electors of Pinellas County, Florida,
3. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith to
the Pinellas County Transportation Authority.
