No. 74 30
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF NATURAL RESOURCES TO EFFECT TOTAL COMPLIANCE
WITH THE LAW GOVERNING COMMERCIAL FISHING WITHIN
THE INLAND WATERS OF CLEARWATER HARBOR AND THE
NARROWS TO THE SOUTH OF CLEARWATER HARBOR,
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater in bounded on its Western side by
the waters of Clearwater Harbor; and
WHEREAS, there are many residences located on this boundary and
the residents in these'homes are being intruded upon by commercial fishermen
who flout the law that provides for a one hundred (100) yard distance from
seawall or docks; and
WHEREAS, these trespass actions have caused distress and real
concern for the safety of residents living along the waters of Clearwater
Bay; and
WHEREAS, the commercial fishing in the area adjacent to Clearwater
has continued unabated, even though the fishing season was officially con-
cluded on December 31; and
WHEREAS, these commercial fishermen operate without lights and
are therefore a hazard to navigation; and
WHEREAS, these commercial fishermen use numbers that are
indistinct and impossible to read or are covered so as to prevent reporting
of violations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY 'THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater officially requests the Florida
Department of Natural Resources to effect total compliance with the laws
governing commercial fishing in Clearwater Bay.
