RESOLUTION
No. 73 - 57
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater has been advised that Moonshine
Island locatod in Clearwater Bay, and consisting of approximately 25 acres of
uplands and 124 acres of submerged lands, is now available for purchase; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater is purchasing a portion of Sand Key
and feels that this acquisition should have top priority as Sand Key is much
more desirable and useful from the public standpoint; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater feels that there is a need for more
park and recreational areas within Pinellas County and the State of Florida; and.
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater further feels that the funds allocated
for park and recreational areas by the State of Florida and/or Pinellas County
should be used for the purchase of Moonshine Island after financial aid and
assistance has been given for the acquisition of a portion of Sand Key;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City of Clearwater hereby wishes to be on record as first
soliciting the aid and assistance of all agencies in the completion of the acquisition
of Sand Key, and secondly, as encouraging the purchase of Moonshine Island
for park and recreational use.
2. That certified copies of this Resolution shall be transmitted forthwith
to the Honorable William Dockerty, Chairman of the Pinellas County Commission,
Clearwater, Florida, and to the Honorable Ney Landrum, Department of Natural
Resources, Tallahassee, Florida,
