~~ ~~ A RESOLUTION URGING STATE PROGRAMS
FOR TRAINING OF SEWAGE TREATMENT
TECHNICIANS FOR PINELLAS COUNTY
WHEREAS, The City of St. Petersburg and the Pinellas County
Board of County Commissioners faintly sponsored an all-day Seminar
on Wastewater Management on April 19, 1972, at Bayfront Genter, dur-
ing which all-day session it was determined technicians and~or owner-
operators of smaller sewage treatment systems in Pinellas County were
inadequately trained for their duties and had little knowledge or applied
craftsmanship for dealing with modern environmental problems; and
WHEREAS, said Seminar further disclosed the changing position
and law and procedures within the State of Florida as to who, how and
where local governments would seek aid in problems surrounding sewage
treatment, and water treatment; and
WHEREAS, this seminar did result in adoption of a Resolution
by a panel of elected officials representing the County Government and
municipalities within Pinellas County, urging at least County-wide train-
ing programs by the State for the development of fully qualified water and
sewage treatment technicians, and the education of such personnel in their
responsibilities pertaining to health and environment, and further calling
for adequate compensation of such technicians;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE iT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER,
FLORIDA, IN SESSIdN DULY AND REGULARLY
ASSEMBLED, AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
endorses the need for specialized training of persons responsible for and
operating the several water and sewage treatment systems in Pinellas County
and urges the combined efforts of the Florida Division of Health and Re-
habilitative Service, Florida Health Department and Florida Department
