RESOLUTION
No. 71 - 20
;;.
WHEREAS. the improvement of motor vehicle traffic arteries through
Pinellas County has natkept pace with the tremendous and accelerating growth
in the population of the County; and
WHEREAS traffic studies made by the State Department of Trans-
portation indicate that unless aNorth-South freeway is made available very
soon, orderly movement of traffic will become an impossibility; and
WHEREAS. there is no indication that such freeway can be agreed
upon yr constructed within the fareaeeable future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION O>' 'l'HE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED AS
FOLLOWS;
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,

hereby officially urges Honorable Reubin Askew, Governor of the State of
Florida, and the Department of Transportation of the State of Florida, to
immediately begin studies ox take other necessary steps which would culminate
in the upgrading of U. S. Highway 1q to the status of a controlled access highway
from the Pasco County Line as far South as State Road b$8 (L311xierton Road}, or
to a point suitable for the construction of a by-pass of U.S. 19 to intersect
Interstate ?5 in North St. Petersburg; and that plans be undertaken to provide
parallel service roads and sufficient interchanges so that traffic on U. S. 19
will not be impeded tsy local traffic.
Z. Further, we urge that immediate steps be taken to extend the parallel.
service roads which are currently planned for construction in connection with the
U. S. 19 and State Road 60 interchange, South to Belles' Road in Clearwater,
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of A,D. 1 71..
