WI-IEREA5~ orator ve4~icles oquipped with defective or improper
mufflers, or na mufflers at all, are a hazard to life due to carbon monoxide
and am also a hazard to environmental amenities; and
WHEREAS, the noise-level of our communities is increasing daily
and one of the worst offenders is a faulty muffler of which there are many
on our streets and highways; and
WHEREAS, to avoid tragedies from carbon monoxide caused by
defective or improper mufflers or the complete lack of mufflers, and to
decrease the noise-level ui our communities, it is the opinion of the City
Commission that Chapter 325, Florida Statutes, relating to required safety
equipment inspection of motor vehicles should be amended to include the
inspection of mufflers, including meters to register the noise-level;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS: •
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater, Florida,
hereby officially requests and urges the Governor of the State of Florida
and the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation to take the necessary action
to amend the requirements relating to safety equipment inspection of motor
vehicles to include the inspection of mufflers, including meters to register
the noise»level.
2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith
to Governor Reubin Askew and to the Pinellas County Legislative Delegation.
