RESOLUTION
No. 69 - 97
WHEREAS, tlae Florida Department of Transportation has Notified
the City of Clearwater that it is considering the removal of all paxking on
Ft. Harrison Avenue from a point 200 feet North of Pinellas Street, 5auth
to the City limits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater~s Parking and Traffic Committee
has evaluated this proposal with special emphasis on the effect this proposal
will have on merchants in the area and motorists; and
WHEREAS, after thin evaluation, the City will support the proposal
to remove parking on Ft. Harrison Avenue from the intersection of Pinellas
Street, South to the City limits, but objects to the removal of parking 200
feet North of the intersection; and
WHEREAS, this abjection is based on the fact that left-turn storage
lanes are presently in existence on the North and South approaches to Pinellas
Street along Ft. Harrison Avenue; that the parking has already been removed
on the East aide of Ft. Harrison Avenue Nortly of the Pinellas intersection;
that the ~4-laving on Ft. Harrison Avenue should be extended at an intersection,
rather than in the middle of the block; that there would be no significant
improvements in the traffic conditions to warrant the removal of the e:cisting
parking along the West side of Ft. Harrison Avenue, 200 feet North of Pinellas
Stxeet; a'nd that tress parking spaces serve several small businesses that do
not have access to off»street parking, and the elimination of the on-'street
parking would sexiousiy affect these businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clearwater desires to officially notify the
Florida Department of Transportation of their recommendations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS :
1, That the City of Clearwater does hereby officially notify the
Florida Department of Transportation that it will support the proposal to remove
parking on Ft. Harrison Avenue from the intersection of Pinellas Street,
South to the City limits, but objects to the removal of parking 200 feet North
of the intersection.
2. That a certified copy of thin Resolution be Went to the Florida
Department of Transportation.
