WHEREAS, various owners and operators of vessels operating within
tho channels o[ Clearwater Harbor and the appxaaches thoreta have petitioned
the City of Clearwater tv take such action as fs necessary to restore full
project depth to Clearwater Pass Channel; and
WHEREAS, it is noted that due to the recent hurricane the channel has
silted to a controlling depth of five feet or less at mean low water in the
vicinity of Clearwater Pass Buoy #4, and in that section of the channel which lies
between Daybeacons 13 and I5, and such condition should be remedied along
with any othex obstruction to navigation that may become evident during the
performance of such work; and
WHEREAS, there have been numerous complaints regarding groundings
in the above area and in some instances considerable damage to vessels has
resulted; and
WHEREAS, at the present time there is a dredge on the site which
would be available to dredge the Channel and there is a good passibility such
dredging could be performed at no cost to the U. S. Corps o€ Engineers; and
lE~'HEREAS, the City Commission desires to request the U.S, Corps
of Engineers to take steps to have the Channel dredged as soon as possible;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, 'FLORIDA,
IN SESSION DULY AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS
FOLLOWS:
1. That the City Commission of the City of Clearwater hereby
officially requests the U,S, Corps of Engineers to take steps to restore full
project depth to Clearwater Pass Channel at the earliest date possible.
2. That certified copies of this Resolution be forwarded forthwith to
the U,S. Corps of Engineers, ,y'acksonville, Florida, and to the Florida Berard
of Conservation, Tallahassee, Florid'
