RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the observance of National Flag Week has for its purpose
the inculcation of the moaning of true Americanism into the minds and hearts
of all our citizens; the marking of the anniversary of tho adoption of the first
flag of the Nation; the directing of attention to the history of and a reminder of
our rights and privileges enjoyed under the "Star-Spangled Banner" and our
duties and obligations resulting from their enjoyment; and
W~IEREAS, June 1~4, 1963, is the 1f36th annivarsaxy of the birth of the
first flag of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the ideals of individual freedom, equal justice under law
and representative government aro symbolized by our Nation's flag;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, IN SESSION DULY
AND REGULARLY ASSEMBLED, AS FOLLOWS:
That the appropriate officials of the City of Clearwater, Florida,. aro
hereby instxucted and directed to proclaim the week of June 9 through l5, 1963,
to b e
"NATIONAL FLAG WEEK"
in Clearwater, Florida, and to urge all citizens to join in this celebration and
let June I~4, 1963 be commemorative of the Resolution adopted by the Contin4ntal
Congress of 3une ld, 1777 to establish the first flag of the United States of
America.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 3xd day of June, A. D. 1963.
