RESOLUTION NO. 90-19
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER. FLORIDA, AFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR THE PROPOSED
BEACH NOURISHHENT PROJECTS FOR THE PINELLAS COUNTY BEACH
MANAGEMENT PROGRM1,
WHEREAS, good beaches are an important part af the quali ty of life of
Pinellas County; and
WHEREAS. it is an established fact that a wide, stable beach provides the
most protection from hurricane storm surge and provides a recreational
opportunity for local residents and seasonal visitors, and contributes to a
stable tourism economic base; and
WHEREAS. extensive beach erosion has occurred on the beaches as a result
of Hurricanes Elena and Juan; and
WHEREAS, beach erosion continues to be a major problem along much of the
shoreline of Pinellas County, threatening this vital natural resource;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby affirms its strong support of the
proposed beach nouri shment projects in the Pi nell as County Beach, Management
I Program and urges its immediate approval and funding.
Section 2: Copies of this resolution shall be provided to the Governor
and Cabinet of Florida, the Pinellas County Commission, and the members of the
Pinellas County Legislative Delegation.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
