A RESOI~UTION OF THE crry COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, OPPOSING TUB CONVERSION OF
McMULLEN-BOOTU ROAD TO EITHER A LIMITED ACCESS
ROAD OR AN EXTENSION OF THE INTERSTATE HlOHWA Y
SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, the Florida Department ot Transportation is proposing to construct
more than 214 mnes of new or improved limited access expressways and interstate
highways in the Tampa Bay area at an estimated cost exceeding $2.16 billion during'
the next twenty years; and
WHEREAS, McMullen-Booth Road in the City oC Clearwater Is proposed to be
incorporated into this "beltway" or "loop" system, connecting Interstate 275 in St.
Petersburg with Interstate 75 in Pasco COlmty; and
WHEREAS, McMullen-Booth Road is now a two--Iane mInor arterial on the county
road system which is befng expanded to six lanesJ and
WHEREAS, the adjacent properties depend upon direct access to McMullen-
Booth Road, which would be precluded by a limited-access highway; now therefore
BE rr RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission ot the City ot Clearwatel', Florida, hereby
expresses its opposition to the proposed conversion of McMullen-Booth Road to a
limited-access road or an extension of the interstate highway system, and requests
that a north-south bridge route across Old Tampa Bay be given serIous consideration as
an alternative.
Section 2. The City Clerk shall, upon the adoption of this resolution, mall copies
to the Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation and to each member ot
the Pine1las County Legislative Delegation.
PASSED AND ADOPTED AS AMENDED this 17th day ot November, 1988.
