RESOLUTION NO. 88-55
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THAT THE
PINELLAS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
INCLUDE THE GULF BEACH OF SAND KEY WITHIN THE
CITY OF CLEARWATER IN THE PRESENT BEACH
RENOURISHMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Clearwater believes that the
protection of lite and property of the residents of the City, including the coastal
residents whose properties are vulnerable to serlaus erosion and flooding, is to be
enhanced at every appropriate opportunity; nnd
WHEREAS, the sand renourishment or the Gulf Beach at Sand Key within the
CIty of Clearwater is a project which will not only provide enhanced protection of Ufe
and property for the rl;$idents in that areu, but will likewise afford a more extensive
and usable public beach for all the citizens or Pinellas County, including Pinellas
COtmtyts Sand Key Park; and
WHEREAS, Pine1las COtmty is actively pursuing Federal-State-Local sponsored
projects of this nature in other coastal areas of the county; now therefore
BE rr RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF CLEARWATER, FLOIDDA:
Section 1. The City Commission of the City of Clearwater hereby requests that
Pine1las County become the Lead Agency and the Project Administrators of the Gulf
Beach of Sand Key in Clearwater Renourlshment Project and that the project be
dntgently pursued by the Pinellas County Board of County Com missioners. In support
of that request, the City of Clearwater hereby indicates its commitment to the
provision of adequate parking and beach access facilities for the project area.
Section 2. Upon the adoption of this resolution, the City Clerk shall provide a
certified copy hereof to the County Administrator of Plnellas County.
